Introdotto per la prima volta nel 1968 come modello di punta su ordinazione speciale, il D-55 fu così ben accolto che la Guild lo inserì nella linea di produzione regolare entro il 1974. Suonato dal famoso Tommy Smothers nello Smothers Brothers Show alla fine degli anni '60, il D-55 crebbe sia in popolarità che in longevità nel corso dei decenni. La Guild Special Run (GSR) D-55 70th Anniversary Limited è una edizione speciale ultra-collezionabile della chitarra dreadnought di punta dell'azienda, con caratteristiche premium in una tiratura limitata di 70 pezzi supervisionata dal Guild Master Luthier Chuck Sanzone.

La GSR D-55 70th Anniversary Limited presenta la paletta più riconoscibile di Guild, completamente bordata e con intarsi madreperlati ''Guild Peak'' e scudo ''G'' su una faccia in legno esotico di palissandro del Madagascar. Il top presenta una rosetta ornata in abalone e un intarsiato di bordatura coordinato, ed è realizzato in abete rosso invecchiato con listelli scalpellati a mano in abete rosso dell'Adirondack.

Il palissandro esotico del Madagascar è stato utilizzato per il fondo e i lati, aggiungendo venature lungo tutto il corpo e l'intera costruzione a mano è stata realizzata con colla tradizionale a base di pelle. Una tastiera in ebano completamente bordata si abbina a un manico in mogano e una bellissima striscia centrale in noce. È intarsiata con gli iconici blocchi a ''V'' in abalone/perla di Guild e un commemorativo ''Winged G'' al 12° tasto.

Le caratteristiche aggiuntive includono le meccaniche dorate aperte Gotoh, i tasti Evo dorati e un giunto del manico a coda di rondine. Una finitura lucida a nitrocellulosa applicata a mano fornisce uno spessore minimo e una massima risonanza. Ogni chitarra include un certificato di autenticità numerato e firmato, un ritaglio della buca delle f-hole firmato a mano dal team di costruzione Guild USA e viene consegnata in una custodia rigida umidificata premium di Guild. Limitata a 70 pezzi in tutto il mondo per commemorare il 70° anniversario di Guild, 1953-2023.

First introduced in 1968 as a special-order top-of-the-line model, the D-55 was so well-received Guild added it into the regular production line by 1974. Famously played by Tommy Smothers on the Smothers Brothers Show in the late 1960s, the D-55 grew in both popularity and longevity over the decades. The Guild Special Run (GSR) D-55 70th Anniversary Limited is an ultra-collectible special edition of the company’s flagship dreadnought, packing premium features into a limited 70-piece run overseen by Guild Master Luthier Chuck Sanzone.

The GSR D-55 70th Anniversary Limited showcases Guild’s most recognizable headstock, fully bound and featuring mother-of-pearl Guild Peak and G-shield inlays over an exotic Madagascar Rosewood face. The top features an ornate Abalone rosette and matching purfling inlay and is crafted from aged Adirondack Spruce with hand-scalloped Adirondack spruce braces.

Exotic Madagascar Rosewood has been used for the back and sides, adding figured grain lines across the body and the entire hand build has been done using traditional hide glue. A fully bound Ebony fingerboard pairs with a mahogany neck and beautiful Walnut center seam strip. It is inlayed with Guild’s iconic Abalone/Pearl V-blocks and a commemorative “Winged G” at the 12th fret.

Additional features include gold Gotoh open-gear tuners, Evo gold frets and a dovetail neck joint. A hand-sprayed gloss nitrocellulose finish provides minimum thickness and maximum resonance. Each guitar includes a specially numbered and signed certificate of authenticity, a soundhole cut-out hand signed by the Guild USA build team and ships in Guild’s premium humidified hard-shell case. Limited to 70 pcs worldwide to commemorate Guild’s 70th anniversary, 1953-2023.
