The Forty Seven is one of Atkin's small-bodied wonders: a lightly built, X-braced guitar that punches far above its size.
It is outstanding for fingerstyle work, with the immediacy and touch sensitivity that only a small body can give, yet it has enough projection and attack to hold its own when flatpicked.
Atkin's scalloped bracing system is what makes the difference here: it draws a bass response out of this compact body that is strong and far more commanding than the dimensions would suggest, while keeping the midrange clear and the top end sweet.
Many pre-war examples of this shape were built with enormous "baseball bat" necks: The Forty Seven instead carries the standard Atkin C-shape profile, comfortable and immediately familiar to the modern player.
